Irish people have the flirtiest accent, according to a new survey

The Irish accent has been branded the flirtiest in a new survey.

The survey, commissioned by Betfair Casino, shows that out of 2000 respondents, 16% said the Irish accent leaves them feeling a little hot under the collar.

It topped the poll for flirtiest accent, beating the likes of the Geordie and Essex accent which closely followed in second and third place respectively.

The public also voted for the friendliest accent, with the Irish accent proving to be a hit once more as it landed in the top five, alongside Yorkshire, Geordie, Scottish and Welsh.

Scottish, meanwhile, came out on top with 9% of the vote when it came to the public’s most favourite accent, despite also being crowned the most difficult accent to understand (34%).

It beat out the Queen’s English (9%), Geordie (7%), Yorkshire (7%) and Welsh (6%) which were revealed as the top five favourite accents across the UK and Ireland.

Closely following Scottish in the top five accents considered the most difficult to understand, however, were the Brummie accent (18%), arguably made famous by hit BBC series Peaky Blinders, Scouse, Geordie and Northern Irish.
