A young Irish woman has gone viral after recording the reaction of young Americans when she asked if they could speak Irish.
The TikTok content creator jumped on a number of lives by young US-based social media users and hit them with the question "can you speak Irish?"
But the answers were not to the taste of many who viewed it, with basically everyone saying "Irish isn't a language" and others saying "how can you speak an accent".
The video made its way to Reddit where many Irish were left disgusted - although some did question how people in the US would be expected to know.

One viewer said: "I stopped watching after the 2nd person, it's too early in the morning to listen to that shite."
Another said: "I live in the Netherlands, most people laugh when I tell them Irish is a language.
"'An accent isn't a language' is the most common response.
"I don't blame them, since we really don't give anyone reason to believe we have our own language."
Another said: "I'm Portuguese. When i went to Dublin with my friends I said Irish was a language, they insisted it was called Gaelic, nobody called it Irish. They were very belligerent, until I pulled out my phone."
What do you think? Is the Irish language given enough attention?
