Irish Penneys store undergoes deep clean after staff member tests positive for Covid-19

One of Cork's busiest Penneys stores has undergone a deep clean after a positive Covid-19 case among staff.

The shop confirmed that an employee had tested positive for the virus, although it's business as usual after the cleaning - CorkBeo reports.

The budget fashion chain has said that their outlet at the Wilton Shopping Centre on the outskirts of the city underwent a clean and a risk assessment after the staff member reported they had been diagnosed with the virus.

A Penneys spokesperson told CorkBeo: “We can confirm that one employee at our store in Wilton, Cork, has tested positive for Covid-19.

"Nothing is more important than the safety and wellbeing of our customers and employees, and we have detailed contingency plans in place in case one of our employee's tests positive.

"We have informed the public health authorities of this case and carried out a deep clean of the store as an additional precaution.”

The store is open as normal today and relatively busy with social distancing and hygiene measures in place as normal.
