Irish Open set for Galgorm Spa and Golf Resort this September

This year's Dubai Duty Free Irish Open is set to be played in Northern Ireland due to the Republic's quarantine rules, according to reports.

The tournament was originally scheduled to be played at Mount Juliet in May, but was postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

it is understood it will now take place at the Galgorm Spa & Golf Resort in Co Antrim from September 24-27.

Current restrictions in the Republic mean golfers arriving from the US would be required to quarantine for two weeks, but this would not be the case in Northern Ireland.

Around 40 European Tour golfers are set to play in the US Open at Winged Foot on the weekend prior to the new proposed date for the Irish Open, meaning there would be a diminished field if the tournament took place in the Republic.

Rory McIlroy has previously stated that it is unlikely he will play in this year's Irish Open, while Padraig Harrington missed last week's US PGA due to Covid-19 concerns.

The Northern Ireland Open is already scheduled to take place at Galgorm at the start of September.
