Irish Open fans find unique way of watching tournament

Three fans found themselves in a front row seat for some of the action at today's second round of the Irish Open.

The trio found a unique way to swerve fans not being allowed at the Irish golf showpiece - albeit if working commitments may get in the way.

A European Tour video showed what appears to be three farmers watching on from their land, with a herd of cows sharing the view of Galgorm Castle golf course.

The three men are likely the only members of the public to witness this year's tournament, with Covid-19 restrictions forcing the Irish Open to change location and not allow fans to compete.

And it's been a disappointing showing from the Irish contingent so far, with pre-tournament favourites Shane Lowry and Padraig Harrington both on course to miss the cut ahead of the weekend.

Harrington’s chance of making the cut at the Irish Open suffered a body blow on the 18th hole.

The Dubliner had given himself a real look at making it for the weekend at Galgorm by birdieing 17.

But his approach to the last drifted right into long rough and he hit a decent flop shot to 12 foot. Harrington’s par putt looked in all the way but, for the second time in his round, he couldn’t believe it when he saw it horseshoe around the hole.

He may have to wait until tomorrow morning to see if he makes it as, after a 90 minute delay this morning due to frost on the course, the second round is not expected to get finished this evening.
