Irish mum told she has aggressive form of cancer after being 'sent home multiple times' from doctor

A Wicklow mum was told that she had an "aggressive form of cancer" after allegedly being sent home from the doctor multiple times.

Last September, Kelly Barnes began to feel pain in her midsection, back and abdomen, which later became both "chronic" and "relentless."

After many visits to a GP and hospital, her friends say she was "consistently sent home with doctors stating that it was her gallbladder".

However, Kelly felt she had to take matters into her own hands, having already overcome lung cancer back in 2017.

After travelling to Spain for a procedure, a surgeon discovered that Kelly had an "aggressive form of cancer" that was quickly spreading across multiple organs including her liver, bowels, adrenal glands and lungs, to mention but a few.

"Kelly's Cancer is inoperable but it can hopefully be treated and pushed back so Kelly can have some quality of life," a GoFundMe page set up by some of Kelly's good friends revealed.

Having just finished 12 intense rounds of chemotherapy, the Wicklow mum will remain in the care of Spanish doctors for immunotherapy, and has been place on palliative care.

She is staying at the Budwig Treatment Centre in Spain, with the cost of this treatment being around €10,000 for two weeks, not including flights or accommodation. The GoFundMe target has been set as €13,000, with over €16,000 already raised in three days.

"Our goal is to help Kelly offset the financial burden of this 2 week treatment. Please consider helping with Kellys cancer journey. All funds will go directly to Kelly to assist in her battle," her friends wrote.

They added that Kelly has been "an amazing friend for many years" and described her as being "a beautiful soul."

"Her kindness , her caring nature especially toward her two beautiful daughters Tanita and Saffron and her big smile.

"Anyone who has crossed paths with Kelly knows that she radiates love. In a blink of an eye, her life has changed forever but Kelly is determined to keep fighting and this treatment could offer her a lot more time," her friends added.
