Irish Mirror politics podcast The Glass Ceiling launches

The Irish Mirror has launched a brand new podcast series, providing a platform for female politicians.

The Glass Ceiling will feature in-depth discussions with well-known figures to get beneath the surface and find out what makes them tick.

The first episode, launched on International Women's Day, sees Sinn Fein president Mary-Lou McDonald open up on her path to her current position as well as why she believes now is the time for a woman to be Taoiseach.

The Glass Ceiling is hosted by Irish Mirror political correspondent Ciara Phelan, whose recent exclusive interview with Micheal Martin set the news agenda when he disclosed the country was facing stricter and tighter restrictions.

Here is episode one with Mary-Lou McDonald:

Ciara said: “It’s no secret that as with much of Irish society, women are underrepresented in politics here.

“In my new podcast series, The Glass Ceiling, we want to explore the women behind the headlines in Irish political life.

“Listeners will hear stories from household names across the political spectrum in intimate conversations that will touch upon the highs and lows of their careers and how they navigate political and personal challenges.

“Despite facing many barriers along the way, my guests highlight the importance of having and attracting more women into politics.”

The Glass Ceiling is available now on Apple, Spotify, Audioboom and TuneIn.
