Irish Mirror columnist and former editor John Kierans has opened up about his terrifying battle with Covid-19.
The veteran journalist has spent the past week fighting the virus and said his body feels like “it has been attacked by daggers from head to toe”.
Posting an update on his condition on social media, he wrote: “I am six days now fighting Covid-19, it is a whore of a disease.
“It comes at you in waves, and when you start to think you are on the mend it attacks you again and again.
“The fever is horrendous and the body feels like it has been attacked by daggers from head to toe.
“My appetite comes and goes as does my sense of taste. I feel absolutely exhausted due to the lack of sleep.
“However the good news is my breathing is holding up so far. I am glad I gave up smoking 14 months ago. I am not counting my chickens just yet.
“I wouldn’t wish this virus on my worst enemy and as much as this lockdown drives us all insane, we are going to have to stick with a lot of the restrictions until the majority of people are vaccinated, probably until the end of June.
“Trust me you don’t want to have the week I just had and especially with the new variant of the virus.
“I have a long road to go, but please God with a bit of luck I will make a full recovery.”
