Irish midfielder Jake Mulraney joins Major League Soccer side Atlanta United from Hearts

Former Republic of Ireland under-21 star Jake Mulraney has joined MLS side Atlanta United from Hearts as new Hearts boss Daniel Stendel continues to shake up his squad.

Dubliner Mulraney joins compatriots Glenn Whelan, who is reportedly on his way to Fleetwood Town, and Aidan Keena, who signed for National League side Hartlepool United, in leaving the Jam Tarts in this window.

Mulraney has joined the American side, who finished third in the MLS Regular Season standings this season and were the 2018 champions.

He will link up with former Ajax, Inter Milan, and Crystal Palace boss Frank De Boer.

“We’re excited to add another quality attacking player to our club in Jake,” said Atlanta technical director and former Fulham and Rangers defender Carlos Bocanegra.

“He’s a direct player with a lot of pace who can play anywhere across the front three. As he’s in the middle of a season, Jake will be able to get up to full fitness quickly and immediately compete.”

Attacker Mulraney, who counts Nottingham Forest, QPR, and Inverness among his previous clubs, departs Scotland having made 52 appearances in Edinburgh - and just a few months on from being gifted a new three-year deal.
