Irish MEP candidate Ben Gilroy's EU election video is utterly incredible

An Irish MEP candidate has caused a stir with his rather unusual approach to electioneering.

Ben Gilroy and his "hurley stick" star in a viral campaign video in which he takes aim (literally) at "state corruption", "constitution violations", "stealing wealth", "unlawful evictions" and national broadcaster RTÉ.

At the beginning of the two-minute clip Gilroy says "A lot of people are asking why I carry hurley stick..."

The anti-eviction activist then goes on to show how tough he will be on these issues if elected by smashing a flimsy wall with the words written on it with the stick.

He also tries to hit a picture of himself but because he is so 'tough' the stick just ricochets off the wall.

Mr Gilroy was in the High Court last week after he brought an action against RTE for excluding him from a televised debate.

Gilroy says: "I'm going to come back as MEP and stand with you in court making sure your rights are upheld, the way I have done without MEP office. I've even gone to jail for people doing this, and I'll do it again."

In January he was jailed for three months earlier this year over a failure to comply with a High Court order to complete 80 hours community service after he admitted criminal contempt.
