Irish man who won UK Lotto jackpot will receive over €10,000 a month for next 30 years

An Irishman living in the UK has hit the jackpot winning over €10,000 a month for the next 30 years.

Dean Weymes, 24, originally from Dublin, was on a 15 minute break from his Amazon job when he checked his phone and discovered he had won the Set For Life lottery jackpot, worth a total of €3.9million.

Kind-hearted Dean said he intends on sending a lot of his winnings back home to Ireland every month to look after his family in Westmeath.

Dean’s younger brother Robert, 23, suffers from autism and is cared for by their parents Tom, 56, and Paula, 53.

“I feel a responsibility to guarantee his care for the future,” he told the Irish Mirror.

His parents have been struggling to manage 6ft 3in Robert, whose condition sometimes causes him to become aggressive.

Dean explained: “My brother is basically like a baby, he’s non-verbal but can say our names and some other things.

“He can grab hold of you and it’s very difficult because he has unbelievable strength.

“My parents are getting older so it’s harder for them to care for him.

“I want him to have the best trained carers and I want my parents to have regular hours in the day where they can have a break.”

The film buff said he wants to use some of the money to give him time to pursue his dream of becoming a movie script writer.

Dean studied video and film at the Dundalk Institute of Technology before moving to Westmeath to help his parents care for Robert.

Struggling to find work in the rural community, Dean decided to move to live near sister Sarah, 31, in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.

It was here that he landed a job in Amazon’s transportation department, working 40 hours a week 7am-5.30pm Sunday to Wednesday.

“It was always my dream to become a script writer. I love films and the theatre and now I can do something with this,” he said.

“I can turn my passion into a job – something I never thought I could do.

“It is an incredible feeling. I am now worry free for the rest of my life.”

But the down-to-earth, tea-total, non-driver has no plans to splash out on any sports cars, describing the idea of getting behind the wheel as “terrifying”.

His first £10,000 (€10,853) instalment will be paid within days, with further money entering his account monthly until he is 54-years-old.

He wants to put a deposit down on a home of his own and has already booked a family trip to Disneyland Paris.

Dean also wants to treat his young nephew and niece to presents including Lego “if they are well-behaved”.

Dean scooped the huge top prize while playing the UK’s Set For Life Lotto for the first time last Monday.
