Irish man stabbed in holiday resort of Benidorm in Spain

Police in Spain are investigating the stabbing of an Irish man in the holiday resort of Benidorm.

The 44-year-old was rushed to hospital after being knifed on Saturday night.

A National Police spokesman said the incident was still under investigation.

It was not immediately clear if the injured man was on holiday in the area or lived there.

Officers have spoken with a witness thought to have been with the stab victim.

Well-placed sources said the stabbing, which took place around 7.45pm on Saturday, had occurred near a four-star hotel called Hotel Dynastic.

One said the victim had been knifed in the left side, chin and arm.

Another said the investigation was “progressing well.”

He was not able to say why the victim was targeted.
