Irishman tragically dies in horror Australia crash

An Irish man who had been living in Australia for some years has tragically died in a road accident.

Dwaine Edward Byrne, originally from Mitchelstown Co Cork, had been living in Medina, near Perth in Western Australia where he worked in construction.

He was involved in a serious road accident involving a work utility vehicle on November 2nd. Mr Byrne sustained serious injuries and died later in hospital, Cork Beo reports.

Western Australian Police told CorkBeo that the 52-year-old Corkman was a passenger in a car that crashed at Calista, near his home in Medina, on November 2nd.

Mr Byrne was the passenger in a Toyota Hilux that went out of control at around 2.40pm on a road at Calista. The vehicle rolled a number of times and Mr Bryne was thrown from the car, sustaining serious injuries.

He was taken to the Royal Perth Hospital but died on November 7th.

"The driver, a 22-year-old man from Medina, received minor injuries," said a spokesperson for Western Australian Police.

"The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing."

Mr Byrne had been working in a family construction business, based in Rockingham and friends posting tributes to social media have talked of a hard-working man who had many friends and was devoted to his family.

The Mitchelstown man had five children.

His funeral will take place in Australia this week. The Perth area has a large Irish community, which includes a significant number of Cork ex-pats, many of whom are working in construction.
