Irish Lotto player had to convince family he'd won after landing huge prize

Two lucky punters are celebrating after officially collecting massive Lotto prizes.

One Dubliner managed to match five numbers and a bonus ball during the April 14 draw.

He shared the €416,263 prize with a Cavan player - pocketing €208,132 from his ticket, bought at the Circle K service station on the Lower Kimmage Road.

The lucky winner remained cool and collected as he recounted checking his ticket, saying: "Trying to convince my family that I had the winning ticket was probably the biggest challenge.

"I showed them as I checked my ticket on the app along with a few other tickets that had smaller wins on them.

"I purposely scanned the tickets with smaller wins first and then when we got to the big one, I got the message to say that I had won a big prize and to contact the National Lottery so they believed me then - I was telling them see, it was me who won it!

"They were definitely getting excited then.”

The win came on the same night that the €12.7 million jackpot was won by a Kilkenny player and the Lotto Plus 2 top prize was won by a player in Laois.

Remarkably, the second winner from Limerick netted a cool €100,000 while playing the €5 Cash Showdown 'Instant Win' game on the Lotto website.

The Treaty County winner was worried that they were seeing things while playing the online game.

They said: "I had played the game a few times before so I knew how it went but I had never expected to see the top prize amount appear.

"The €100,000 amount came up on the first screen of the game so I was panicking for the remainder of playing as I couldn’t go back to double check it – I had to play to the end so those few moments felt like forever!

"I was delighted when it was confirmed that I wasn’t seeing things and all those zeros really were there.”

The overjoyed winner plans to use the money to help their family, adding: “Helping family is my priority and I’m delighted to be in a situation that I can do that.”
