Irish Lidl store to be knocked and replaced with state of the art supermarket

The Lidl store on the Dublin Road in Ardee, County Louth is due to be knocked down in favour of building a brand new “state-of-the-art Lidl” in its place by next year.

Despite already being a Lidl store, Louth County Council has granted permission for Lidl Ireland to demolish and rebuild the shop with a new ‘concept’ design.

The retailer is set to invest over €8 million into the project and aims to have a brand-new Lidl supermarket for shoppers to visit by Spring 2022.

Shoppers can look forward to higher ceilings, wider aisles and a “spacious interior layout” along with a new “Energy Management System” including solar panels and electric vehicle charging spots outside.

Lidl has said that the revamp will ensure a “superior shopping experience.”

According to Buildinginfo.ie, the original planning permission also sought to add a “mezzanine plant deck” to the store.

Brain Smyth, Regional Property Executive for Lidl Ireland said: “We have had a long-standing desire to offer an upgraded shopping experience in the vibrant and thriving community of Ardee.”

The project will create 80 construction jobs throughout development and 15 additional jobs at the Lidl store once building is completed.

Loyal Lidl shoppers disheartened by the shutting of the Ardee store during construction have been advised to visit other local Lidl stores at Carrickmacross, Drogheda and Dundalk.
