Irish jockey helps other rider from falling off horse in great show of sportsmanship

An Irish jockey helped one of his fellow riders from falling off a horse in a great display of sportsmanship at Limerick today.

Adam Short and Emma Twomey were competing against each other in the Goggin Buckley Veterans Handicap Steeplechase.

But when Twomey's mount Kavanaghs Corner made a bad mistake at the fourth last, Short lent a helping hand.

Twomey's feet fell out of her irons and she looked destined to fall off, when Short, riding Rightback Atya, helped her to stay in the saddle.

The classy, instinctive act allowed Twomey and Kavanaghs Corner to complete the race and finish in third place.

It reminds of a similar moment at Roscommon Racecourse in 2015, when Danny Mullins shoved fellow jock Jody McGarvey so he could stay on board his mount.
