Gardai are hiring a number of emergency call takers across the country with the deadline to apply nearing.
Those applying will not need to have been to college in Templemore and will be stationed in one of Cork, Dublin, Galway, Mayo or Waterford.
The job specification states they are looking for someone with "the drive and passion to make a difference to peoples’ lives but who are also able to work in a high pressured environment where you can sometimes experience high volumes of calls some of which may be very emotive."

Job role overview
- answering emergency calls;
- ensuring all relevant information regarding the call is obtained and recorded on the computer system;
- determining the appropriate response to all emergency incidents.
- recording all mobile activities and incident updates on the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system
- processing requests for assistance from all emergency services and other agencies;
- processing notifications of alarm activations from major alarm installation companies;
- general communications and regional enquiries;
- attending court hearings from time to time as a witness.

- after a period of one year call taking candidates may be requested to take up dispatching duties. Further appropriate training will be given in this regard.

Pay scale
