Irish jobs: Eight great paying county council roles you can apply for right now

The Irish public service is one of the biggest employers in the country, and there are always a wide variety of jobs on offer for people of all trades.

And with light at the end of the pandemic tunnel, many people will be starting to consider a different career path.

To that point, there are plenty of county councils looking for candidates to fill various vacancies up and down the country.

Here is a short breakdown of the best positions currently being advertised on the Public Jobs website:

Dublin County Council - City Archivist - Dublin City Library & Archive

The role involves leading the archives service, managing resources, staff, programmes and archive services to the public and to Dublin City Council.

Dublin City Library and Archive services are provided over a six-day week and shift work may be required in line with public opening hours, including late evenings, and weekends.

Each candidate must: a) Hold an honours degree, level 8 on the National Framework for Qualifications and a post-graduate qualification in archives administration from a recognised third level institution;

b) have a minimum of five years’ experience working as a professional archivist;

c) have good knowledge and awareness of Health & Safety Legislation and Regulations, their implications for the organisation and the employee, and their application in the workplace.

The current starting salary is €50,832 but that could rise up to €66,082

South Dublin County Council - Rate Collector

The successful candidate will be responsible for modernising and managing change in Rates and Revenue Collection and for introducing new initiatives, policies and procedures and working with multidisciplinary teams.

The Rate Collector will be responsible for the day to day operations of Rates Collection, including Property Entry Level (PEL), and be a major contributor to the strategic and policy making decisions in relation to rates and revenue collection.

Salary: €50,832

Cork City Council - Assistant Architect

The role can include responsibility for the management and successful delivery of a range of major and minor capital projects; responsibility for the management and effective delivery of a range of services and responsibility for the management and supervision of assigned staff.

The person/s appointed will work under the direction and control of the City Architect or Senior Executive Architect or other officer designated by the Director of Services or the Chief Executive.

Candidates should:

A) Hold a professional qualification in Architecture that is prescribed under the Building Control Act 2007, or a qualification in Architecture that is equivalent to a qualification so prescribed

B) Be eligible for registration as an Architect under the Building Control Act 2007 without requiring further assessment. Any appointment will be subject to registration under the Act

C) Possess a high standard of technical training and experience

Fingal County Council - Assistant Engineer

Candidates must, on the latest date for receipt of completed application forms:

(a) hold an honours degree (level 8 in the National Framework of Qualifications) in Engineering

(b) have at least two years satisfactory relevant engineering experience and

(c) possess a high standard of technical training and experience.

The duties shall be such as may be assigned to the employee from time to time by the Local Authority and shall include the duty of deputising for other employees of the Local Authority, when required, and such duties as may be assigned to them in relation to the area of any other Local Authority.

SALARY SCALE: €39,522- €62,117

Leitrim County Council - Staff Officer

The candidate will be expected to a self-starter and use initiative and work to a high standard.

The post holder may have a supervisory role in the day to day operations of a work area or as a team leader.

The role requires excellent administrative, supervisory, interpersonal, communication, research, reporting, budgetary and timescale management, and other particular skills and expertise depending on assignment.

Galway County Council - Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer

Reporting to the Chief Fire Officer, the Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer will be required to lead a team in any of the main disciplines of the Fire Service: Fire Prevention, Operations, Fire Safety Management, Major Emergency Management, Civil Defence or Building Control.

As a Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer, the successful candidate will have an important role in the management of staff and will have to be capable of undertaking the role of Rostered Senior Fire Officer at operational incidents.

Salary: €65,678

Monaghan County Council - Senior Staff Officer

The Senior Staff Officer is a middle management position within the Local Authority and is assigned responsibility for the day to day administration and management of a section or department handling an area of the local authority’s activities, including management and supervision of staff.

The Senior Staff Officer is responsible for ensuring that goals set out in Departmental and Team Plans become operational actions through the planning, allocation and prioritisation of work.

The Senior Staff Officer is a key point of contact and liaison with other Sections or Departments in relation to all operational matters for the service delivery section or sections for which they are responsible.

The Senior Staff Officer is expected to carry out their duties with an understanding of the political context of local government and in such a manner that enhances public trust and confidence and ensures impartial decision making.

Salary: €48,540

Kerry County Council - Beach Lifeguard

Candidates will be required to display a proficiency in resuscitation, swimming ability and rescue techniques in oral and practical tests.

The official bathing season is from 01 June until 15 September each year and successful candidates will generally be required to be available for work for the entire season. Offers of employment and actual beach assignments may be subject to same.

Pay rate is €581.02 per 41 hour week.

Successful candidates will be required to work at one of the following beaches:-

Ballinskelligs, Ballybunion, Ballyheigue, Banna, Maharees, Derrynane, Fenit, Inch, Kells, Rossbeigh, Ventry and White Strand, Caherciveen.
