Irish horse racing highly unlikely to return before government's June 29 date, according to the bookies

The bookies are confident that Irish horse racing won't make an early return to action.

Racing was halted on March 24 and Horse Racing Ireland were dealt a blow last week when it was announced that a behind-closed-doors return was pinpointed for June 29.

And despite the HRI vowing to work with the government towards securing an earlier return date, betting markets suggest that the racecourses will lie idle until at least the end of June.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “The odds do not bode well for those hoping that Irish racing will return sooner rather than later. Although talks are happening behind the scenes, the market suggests racing in Ireland will be on hold until June 29 anyway.”
