Irish home owners stunned as house ransacked and dog taken in sickening burglary

Gardai are investigating after a home was burgled and a family dog was taken in Offaly.

The sickening incident happened in Birr on Wednesday evening.

The suspects stole a number of tools as well as taking the family pet before fleeing the scene in an Audi.

Gardai are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed anything or sees the dog being sold online to contact them.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí in Birr are investigating a Burglary that occurred yesterday evening during the course of which a number of tools were taken and this pet dog.   

"A black Audi A4 07 car was seen nearby with a number of males. If you passed the School Street, Crinkle location or are offered this dog please let us know at 0579169710."
