Irish holiday-makers hoping to visit Spain will be forced to quarantine for 14 days

Anyone hoping to plan a holiday to Spain in the near future will be facing a mandatory 14-day quarantine upon arrival it has been announced.

International arrivals will be subject to the new rules from this Friday, May 15 in a bid to combat the spread of coronavirus across the country as they begin recovery.

The new sanctions will remain in place during the State of Emergency across all popular hotspots including Majorca, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Malaga, Madrid and Barcelona, RSVP Live reports.

This comes after the first phase of their recovery plan began this week.

It was also announced that many airlines, including Ryanair, have planned to restart flights in and out of the country as soon as possible.

An order published by the Spanish government this morning in the Official State Gazette (BOE) states: "Travellers who come to Spain from abroad must quarantine themselves for 14 days following their arrival."

It adds: "The favourable evolution of the epidemiological situation" in Spain and the start of the de-escalation "make the control measures precise, so that they take into account the worldwide distribution of the virus and based on the principle of caution, considers it necessary to apply to people who come from abroad the need to carry out a quarantine for 14 days. ”

Any holidaymakers showing symptoms of coronavirus such as fever, cough or respiratory distress “should make contact by telephone with the health services using the numbers enabled by the autonomous communities, indicating that they are in quarantine for coming from abroad."

The news comes as it was revealed that anyone travelling in and out of the United Kingdom are also facing new health measures, as announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson earlier this week.

The measures have been put in place to "manage the risk of transmissions being reintroduced from abroad."

They said: "The Government will require all international arrivals not on a short list of exemptions to self-isolate in their accommodation for fourteen days on arrival into the UK."

However, is also believed that anyone visiting Ireland or France will not have to follow these regulations.

They add: "All journeys within the Common Travel Area will also be exempt from these measures."
