Irish hemp product urgently recalled by FSAI for 'unsafe levels' of psychoactive substance THC

An Irish hemp product has been recalled from stores and from online suppliers after it was discovered that it contained unsafe levels of THC.

THC, or Tetrahydrocannabinol, is the main psychoactive compound in cannabis that produces a high sensation - the sale of which remains illegal in Ireland.

A batch of Kama Hemp 100% Organic Hemp Juice Powder is being recalled due to its presence, and distributors are asked to withdraw the affected batch from the market.

One batch, with the identifying number 230426, that affected.

Retailers are requested to take returns on any packets associated with the implicated batch and to display a point-of-sale recall notice in stores where the affected batch was sold and on websites if sold online.

A statement published by the FSAI read: “The above batch of Kama Hemp 100% Organic Hemp Juice Powder is being recalled due to the presence of unsafe levels of delta‐9‐tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

"EHOs are requested to verify as part of routine checks that the above batch is recalled. Please notify the FSAI of any concerns.”

Consumers who have recently purchased this brand are advised to check the label and ensure it is not affected by the recall.

If it is, customers are warned not to consume the implicated batch.
