An Irish girl in Canada has made a comical video showing just how expensive home comforts are in her local shop.
Carlow woman Roisin Byrne spent $60 (just over €40) in Vancouver's local Irish shop before taking the small haul home and pulling out each item and detailing how much they cost on her TikTok account.
We apologise for any distress the rest of this article may cause, as she's forked out some serious dosh for staples such as a box of Lyons, a Dairy Milk, and bit of Odlums scone mix.
Some of her shop consisted of:
- White pudding - $11 (€7.67)
- Baked beans - $5 (€3.49)
- Large Dairy Milk - $7 (€4.88)
- Lyons Tea Bags (80 bags) - $15 (€10.46)
- Scone Mix - $6 (€4.18)
Some of the items, such as the tea bags and Dairy Milk, are as much as three times the price they are in Ireland.
A can of the same beans go for €1.25 while 80 Lyons tea bags are currently €3 in Tescos here.
Speaking to CorkBeo Roisin said its all down to shipping costs, and that it it's only a little bit more than how much everyday things cost in Canadian supermarkets.
She said: "To be honest the prices of groceries over here are insane too, and so is the price of posting from Ireland so when you put them together it makes sense.
I'm lucky my family are great for sending stuff over, and that Irish shop is a great little spot we love going there. But it is mad how much you can pay for little home comforts."
Roisin's video has amassed almost 20,000 views on the popular app TikTok with many left gobsmacked at just how much things can cost.
One girl wrote: "Me and my boyfriend are planning a move - won't be bringing clothes with me. Will be bringing a suitcase of teabags to sell to Irish people on corners."
Others even offered to post some stuff over to Roisin and her housemates.
