Irish footballer Clare Shine's pride at sobriety after opening up on mental health struggles

Irish footballer Clare Shine has expressed her pride at being sober for three months.

The Glasgow City striker reacted to a status of her achievement with happy emoji faces on social media.

Shine has been very open about her mental health struggles in the past and was praised for her recent efforts.

"So proud of you Clare you're doing excellent," one person said.

Another said: "Great Stuff. Well done. A whole new positive world opening out in front of you."

In June, Shine was the subject of a missing person's search with her club reaching out to people through social media to help find the 25-year-old.

She was later found and thanked all of those who showed her support through a dark time, tweeting: "Thank you everyone, I’m struggling and that’s okay. I’ll be back. Look after yourself."

Shine, who has played for the national team, is back playing football and continues to encourage people struggling with mental health issues to open up to others.
