Irish football legend Niall Quinn donates prizes for brave dad Andrew McGinley's charity

Ireland football legend Niall Quinn is donating prizes for a charity set up by Andrew McGinley in memory of his children.

Donegal native Andrew admitted he has just been through one of the toughest weeks of his life as his wife Deirdre Morley, 44, went on trial for murder.

She was found not guilty by reason of insanity after she admitted smothering Conor, nine, Darragh, seven and three-year-old Carla at their home in January 2020.

Brave father Andrew is determined to keep memories of his three children alive and has launched three projects in their names.

The grieving dad has set up a social media account in the name of Conor, a colouring competition in daughter Carla’s name and a charity in the name of son Darragh.

And Andrew has told that former Ireland striker Quinn has helped out with quarterly prizes for charity As Darragh Did.

He told Extra.ie: "Niall Quinn has a signed Man City jersey from the squad. So anyone signed up will be entered into that draw and Niall has very kindly offered to put quarterly prizes in for us, so anyone giving monthly donations stands a chance.

"Niall has been very helpful and is an absolute gentleman."

Andrew is also planning to write a series of children’s books in their memory.

He told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “The two lads were prolific comic book writers under the logo Homemade Comics Inc.

“I’m going to take some of those characters and I’m going to write children’s books.

“Conor and Darragh and Carla will feature as characters in these books. They had such short lives; I’m hoping these projects will keep their memory alive.”
