Irish Football Association and NIFL establish a football response group to deal with Coronavirus concerns

The Irish Football Association, in collaboration with NIFL, has confirmed the establishment of a response group to deal with concerns around the Coronavirus health scare.

It aims to offer “consistent and co-ordinated messaging” to clubs, players, match officials, supporters, staff and other stakeholders potentially affected by the outbreak.

A NIFL spokesman said: “Together with the Irish FA we will coordinate the game’s response to the challenges posed by the Coronavirus outbreak in a responsible and planned manner.

“We will obviously update clubs and fans on any developments and actively monitor government advice in case the situation changes and additional measures are necessary.

“We would encourage our member clubs to continue to follow government advice as this is where the expertise lies.”

Mid Ulster League club Hanover FC confirmed at the weekend that one of their players had tested positive for Coronavirus after playing a match on Saturday.

The Portadown club said they were only made aware the player had contracted COVID-19 after the game against Coagh United reserves.

NIFL has advised anyone concerned by the Coronavirus to go to NHSUK/coronavirus for further information about the virus and how to protect yourself.
