Irish fighter Joe Duffy announced on UFC 'Fight Island' card in Abu Dhabi next month

An Irishman will step into a UFC Octagon this summer - but it's not Conor McGregor.

Donegal fighter Joe Duffy will make his return at UFC Fight Night 173 - otherwise known as 'Fight Island' - on July 18.

Duffy (16-4) returns to take on Spain's Joel Alvarez (16-2) in Abu Dhabi next month on the card's prelims.

It'll be the first time an Irishman steps into the promotion's cage since Conor McGregor's 40-second win over Donald Cerrone in January.

Duffy, who was the last man to beat McGregor before Nate Diaz in 2016, is looking to avoid his third UFC defeat on the bounce as he returns from a 16 month hiatus.

The fight night will be headlined by the rematch between Deiveson Figueirego and Joseph Benavidez for the vacant UFC Flyweight title.
