Irish family phoned by thugs warning to 'slit their stolen dog's throat' if money isn't handed over

An Irish family have told how they've been subjected to vile threats due to their relentless search for their stolen dog.

Cocker Spaniel siblings Topsy and Turvy were stolen from their home Kilternan, Dublin 18 on July 4.

Their owners say Turvy was recovered from Mallow, Co Cork from someone trying to sell her on DoneDeal.

But Topsy remains missing and a social media page set up to help find the eight-year-old dog has garnered around 15,000 followers.

In a recent post, the family have claimed they've received late-night phone calls, in which the caller warned them to hand over money or they will slit the dog's throat.

A family member said: "We know the person who has Topsy is reading this. We know who you are.

"We will not be stopping. We will not be giving up on Topsy. If you want this trouble to stop, give us Topsy back.

"Tie her up outside a tesco or something if you are too scared to meet us. But it's time now for this to end.

"Give us our dog back because we won't be backing off.

"And for the people phoning us in the middle of the night saying they will slit Topsy's throat if we don't give them money and meet them in Ballyfermot, back off.

"You're wasting our time and making us angry.

"To everyone else helping us to recover Topsy please keep searching and sharing. Please don't give up on Topsy."

The post has been shared more than 5,000 times and has received over 2,000 reactions.

The owners also claim a picture of Topsy was used on DoneDeal by a person who actually had her sister Turvy.

This person allegedly claimed he didn't know the dog was stolen and said he bought Turvy off his cousin who got her off a man who swapped her for a pony.

The Irish Mirror has contacted gardai for comment.
