Irish F1 superfan's dreams come true as he's gifted one-in-a-lifetime trip to Hungarian Grand Prix

A young boy from Kerry has had his dreams come true in an emotional video posted by his sister. His siblings gifted him with a trip to Hungary this weekend for the Formula 1 Grand Prix.

The 13-year-old Formula 1 super fan from Lixnaw was shocked to see a suitcase packed on his bed with tickets to the Grand Prix on top. The plan was months in the making with Chloe Leen saying: “It’s been a long seven months keeping it a secret from him.”

Speaking to the Irish Mirror, Leen said: “He’s a huge F1 fan, literally obsessed. Every conversation we have ends with F1 and we are just as bad.”

“We are split into three teams though, me and my sister, Aoife, are huge Redbull fans but to be fair Aoife loves McLaren too. Jack is Mercedes and Odhran is a die-hard Lando fan,” she said.

Their trip did not get off to the best start however, as their luggage was missing when they arrived in Budapest.

In a Facebook update, Leen said: “All our gear that we had for the race; hundreds of euros worth of stuff gone. No one has any answers for us. Four suitcases gone, no help from Dublin Airport, no help from the airport in Budapest or Swiss airlines, nobody has answers for us.

“What should have been the trip of a lifetime has turned into a living nightmare, we are here with nothing but the clothes on our back,” she said.

Speaking to the Irish Mirror, Leen said: “It’s been a tough first day, we missed our pitlane walk because we were so long in the airport waiting for news on our luggage that still hasn’t turned up,” she said before adding, “we aren’t going to let this ruin a trip of a lifetime.”

“We are able to still go to the race because thankfully, I put the tickets in our bag packs,” she said before adding, “luggage or no luggage, this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

Commenters were raving over Odhran’s reaction with one viewer saying: “An all-Ireland last weekend and Hungary this weekend, boy will remember that forever.”

Other commenters commended Odhran for being thoughtful as he asked: “How did you afford them?”
