Irish Eurovision winner Linda Martin says she has 'never been so sick' after collapsing with suspected coronavirus

Irish Eurovision winner Linda Martin has revealed she collapsed at her home with a suspected coronavirus infection.

The 68-year-old said she took severely ill on March 15th and has "never been so sick" in her entire life.

The singer has not received a Covid-19 test but has been recovering in her bed and self-isolating as if she has the virus - as recommended.

She told the Irish Sun: "I was never so sick in my whole life. I remember it started with a burning sensation and a fever breaking. I was in the kitchen and staggered over to the sink to get some water.

"Then I blacked out and woke up on the kitchen floor with my dogs looking down at me.

"I’m not exaggerating, I was really bad. I’m a tough old bird and not much bothers me but this nearly finished me off. I wouldn’t wish it on anybody."

The Belfast woman is now recovering and well enough to do some gardening but thinks it will be a long while until she can go back touring again.

She is also very disappointed the Eurovision had to be cancelled this year but understands why the decision had to be made.

Ireland's entry this year was supposed to be Lesley Roy who admitted she was devastated by the news of the cancellation.

Speaking on RTE 2fm she said: "Ah look, I am devastated, lads. Honestly, I was so excited to represent Ireland, and I thought we had a banger of a song and such an amazing new team and we would have brought something really special to Rotterdam."
