This needs no comment. The letter sent by Electric Ireland to “The Occupant, Killiney Graveyard, Castlegregory, Co Kerry” - as reproduced on the broadsheet.ie website under the headline “Return to sender” - reads as follows:

PLEASE REGISTER YOUR ACCOUNT

Dear Sir/Madam,

Our records show that there is no customer registered at the above address.

To ensure that the electricity supply remains connected, you will need to register with us. To do this, simply telephone us on 1850 372 372 (Monday - Saturday, 8am - 8pm).

We look forward to hearing from you and providing you with the best possible service.

Please note, a visit by a Networks Technician to your premises will incur a minimum charge of €70.00 + VAT.

Yours sincerely,
Shane Boland
Manager, Billing & Database
