A DJ has told how he turned the tables on an online scammer who was trying to fleece him for £1,000.

Ross Walsh, 22, from Limerick in Ireland, said he managed to fool the trickster into transferring £25 to his account.

Mr Walsh boasted that it was the third time he has extracted a small sum from scammers and donated the money to charity.

"I want to waste their time so they're not wasting anyone else's time," he told the Limerick Leader.

The part-time DJ, known by his stage name Welshy, duped the email scammer who went by the name Solomon Gundi.

The trickster asked Mr Walsh to transfer him £1,000 as investment in their “company” in exchange for half of the “business”.

Mr Walsh told the scammer that his bank had put a stop to his transaction like these as they were flagged as scams.

He asked “Solomon” to transfer him £25 as part of a security check as proof that the transaction would be legitimate.

"I said they don't want to release the funds unless they see a small sum of money going from his account to my account just to prove this isn't a scam," Mr Walsh said.

"He fell for it then."

Once the £25 reached his account, Mr Walsh said he donated it to a cancer charity and sent "Solomon" the receipt.
