Irish Cup second round: Crusaders boss Stephen Baxter under no illusions ahead of Knockbreda test

Crusaders boss Stephen Baxter says Knockbreda will be as hungry to cause a cup shock as his players were when they faced Wolves in the Europa League.

The Seaviewmen, who lost 6-1 on aggregate to the Premier League giants in 2019, are strong favourites to march into Tuesday night’s quarter-finals.

But while Knockbreda have played just two competitive fixtures in 14 months, including last week’s first round win over Newington, Baxter is taking nothing for granted.

“It will be a tough, tough ask on their home pitch and they will be so up for it,” he said.

“It'll be like us going over to play Wolves in Europe a couple of years ago. We'll have to prepare very professionally for a tough job, but we will be confident in our approach.

“We have two routes left to secure European football - the cup and playoffs - so we want to stay in the mix to try and win the Irish Cup.

“We rested players against Linfield midweek to try and get them fit for the final three weeks of the season and that’s now a big focus and challenge for us.”
