Irish Cup final: Ballymena United sticking with 'lucky' kit for decider

Ballymena United are sticking with their 'lucky' burgundy kit for Friday's Sadler's Peaky Blinder Irish Cup final.

David Jeffrey's side won't be decked out in their traditional Sky Blue colours for the decider against Glentoran.

Instead they will stick with the burgundy kit that has served them well in this season's competition

"We wore it in cup wins against Warrenpoint Town, Ballinamallard United and Coleraine, so it has brought us some luck along the way," explained Ballymena chairman John Taggart.

"The burgundy kit was designed for Europe as you need a third kit for European games.

"It is a kit we have worn quite a bit in this season's Irish Cup so we are sticking with it for the final."

He added: "We are looking forward to the final. It is fantastic to see Ballymena United in another Irish Cup final.

"Monday was an incredible game and late victory against Coleraine, and now we have to go again on Friday night.

"This final is obviously a bit different with only 500 fans allowed to attend. It will lack the atmosphere and colour of previous finals, but it is always a special occasion.

"It should prove a great game against Glentoran and we can't wait."
