Irish Cup 2021: Dundela become sixth club to withdraw from competition

Another team has withdrawn from this season's Sadlers Peaky Blinder Irish Cup.

Championship outfit Dundela announced on Wednesday evening that they will not be competing in this year's competition.

The Duns follow Ards, Newry City, Institute, Queen's and Harland and Wolff Welders in pulling out of this season's Irish Cup, with many clubs citing player welfare and finance as key reasons for their decisions.

Dundela were due to travel to holders Glentoran in the last-32 on April 27.

In a brief statement posted on their social media, Dundela said: "After lengthy discussions it has been decided that Dundela will NOT participate in this seasons Irish Cup."

It was announced this month that the Irish Cup had been granted 'elite' status, allowing all participating clubs from outside the Premiership to recommence full training from March 31.

Championship and Premier Intermediate League sides will be deemed elite for as long as they remain in the competition.

Clubs from the second and third tiers have not trained since December, with their respective league seasons having been cancelled last month.
