Irish country music star Gerry Guthrie opens up on lockdown with partner and son

Mayo country music star Gerry Guthrie has opened up on his lockdown experience with his partner and son.

The Ballina native who is notoriously private when it comes to his personal life told the Irish Daily Mirror that he enjoyed the past few months spending more time than ever with his partner and teenage son, Nathan.

Gerry said that he had purchased a house in Ballina and used all his free time since March renovating the property.

"I actually bought a house in Ballina so I've spent the past few months doing that up.

"My mother and father live just around the corner actually so I've been very lucky. During lockdown I got to see them at the gate a lot, a lot of my family actually live in the area so it's great."

Proud Dad Gerry spoke about his teenage son, who also lives close by in the Ballina area with his mum.

He said Nathan has been focusing a lot on his studies this year as he prepares for his Leaving Cert in the midst of the pandemic.

"It's actually his Leaving Cert year this year so it's an unusual year for him. He's been very focused on that.

"He lives with his mum in Ballina."

When asked about his long term partner, the country music star responded that he prefers to keep his personal life out of the spotlight.

He added: "I live my life and she lives her own life privately."

Gerry will be taking part in filming HOT Country TV's 'An Irish Country Christmas' next week alongside Daniel O'Donnell, Nathan Carter, Mike Denver, and Cliona Hagan as well as all the other top names in the industry.

The two hour exclusive will be filmed under a range of 'guidelines' and 'safety measures' to keep the cast and crew safe.

The never seen before Christmas videos will be available to air on all devices and smart TV's from 5 pm Christmas Eve for three weeks.

Gerry also revealed that he is working on a new album which will hopefully be released in 2021.

Speaking about the Hot Country TV special Gerry said that fans can expect a very exciting show.

He said: "There's been a big change in lifestyle and music in every corner of Ireland and musicians have kind of had the rug pulled out from under us in a sense.

"It’s different this year because usually, we would all be in the studio together. It’s all different but it's going to be great."
