Irish community pays tribute to 'beautiful, happy' six-year-old after tragic death

A local community has been left in shock after the sudden death of a "beautiful, happy" six-year-old boy.

Joshua Reilly of Clonmore near Templemore in Co Tipperary passed away unexpectedly while on holidays in Wexford on Saturday.

And locals have been left reeling from the tragedy, with Tipperary TD Michael Lowry leading the tributes to the youngster.

He wrote: "I extend my heartfelt condolences to Jennifer and Lorcan, to Shane, to their immediate family members, relatives and many, many friends on the passing of Joshua.

"May he rest in the arms of the angels."

While Joshua's GAA club, JK Brackens in Templemore, hailed the "beautiful, happy boy with a huge smile", saying he "endeared himself to everyone he met".

They wrote on Facebook: "The club is deeply saddened by the passing of Joshua Reilly, Clonmore. Joshua passed away suddenly on Saturday evening while on holidays with his family in Wexford.

"Joshua, who was just 6 years old, was a sports fanatic who loved JK Brackens, Tipperary and Liverpool.

"He was a member of our U7 hurling and football group and trained weekly in the park and he loved attending blitzes with his friends. Just last week Joshua attended the club Cul Camp and enjoyed every minute.

"Joshua was a beautiful, happy boy with a huge smile who endeared himself to everyone he met. We express our sympathy to his parents Jennifer & Lorcan, his brother Shane, his grandparents Joe & Ellen O' Connor and Declan Reilly, his extended family and his many friends in St. Joseph's Primary School."

St Joseph's Primary School in Templemore also hailed the "gorgeous" young boy and sent their condolences to Joshua's family.

They added: "We are heartbroken at the sudden passing of our gorgeous Junior Infant boy, Joshua Reilly on Saturday evening last. We extend our deepest sympathies to his parents Jennifer and Lorcan, brother Shane, grandparents and wider family at this most difficult time."

And Joshua's family have now confirmed that he will be laid to rest in a funeral mass on Thursday.

A post on RIP.ie reads: "Joshua Reilly, Graffin, Clonmore, Templemore, Co. Tipperary, 10th of July, Age 6, unexpectedly to the inexpressible grief of his heart broken parents Jennifer and Lorcan, Brother Shane, grandparents Ellen, Joseph and Declan, aunt Siobhan, uncle Liam, relatives and friends.

"May his gentle soul rest in peace.
