Irish Coast Guard swarm Dublin beach to rescue struggling windsurfer

The brave crew of the Irish Coast Guard swarmed a south Dublin beach following reports of a struggling windsurfer.

The alarm was raised by a member of the public who was worried about a person in the water off Seapoint beach.

Emergency services arrived at the beach and observed the windsurfer for some time.

The team stood down after it was deemed that the windsurfer was okay and not at risk.

A spokesperson said on Facebook: "Call from a member of the public concerned for a windsurfer who seemed to be struggling off Seapoint.

"A crew went to investigate and observed the windsurfer for a period of time and deemed them to be ok and not at risk. Crew stood down."

Last week, the Irish Coast Guard was alerted by a member of the public who witnessed a person entering the water at Sandymount during Storm Barra.

A team was deployed to investigate but the person had left the area in a car.

The crew was called to Sandymount on Saturday after concerns were raised for two people cut off by the tide.

The spokesperson added: "Team tasked to investigate. Persons not cut off and they were ok. Team stood down.

"Remember if you see anyone in difficulty in or near the water, dial 112/999 or VHF channel 16 immediately and ask for the Coast Guard."
