Irish Coast Guard and rescue helicopter swarm Killiney Beach looking for missing 5-year-old

The Irish Coast Guard and a rescue helicopter swooped a south Dublin beach looking for a missing toddler.

The alarm was raised after the five-year-old couldn't be found on Killiney Beach.

Rescue services were en route to the scene when the child was found by lifeguards.

This is one of the many rescue operations undertaken by the Irish Coast Guard over the last week as hundreds flocked to beaches across Dublin due to the good weather.

The coast guard and the RNLI Dun Laoghaire Lifeboat Station were called after a family was cut off by the tide.

Thankfully the family was safely wading through the water back to land when the team arrived at Sandymount.

But the coast guard spotted several other groups of people who were unaware of the incoming tide.

A spokesperson for the Irish Coast Guard said: "[The coast guard] advised them to move to safety as they were unaware of the incoming tide."

In another incident, the coast guard, along with the gardai, rushed to the Forty Foot beach following reports of a jetski operating dangerously close to the swimmers and the beach.

The spokesperson added: "When operating any watercraft and in particular Jetski’s, please keep well clear of any bathing areas and under no circumstances should you use the yellow safety markers to drive around, as swimmers will be near them.

"Remember if you see anyone in difficulty in or near the water, dial 112/999 or VHF channel 16 immediately and ask for the Coast Guard."
