Irish CNN journalist Donie O'Sullivan has revealed what RTE viewers can expect when a new documentary about his career airs next week.
The Kerryman will star in Capitol Man, a programme following his work as a correspondent with the US news outlet over the past year.
Airing on RTE on January 4, the documentary will follow the Cahersiveen native as he reports on misinformation, QAnon and the Capitol Riots in the US this year.
Donie has been hailed as a national treasure ever since he rose to fame here while reporting live to CNN as the Capitol building in Washington DC was stormed in January.
He said the past 12 months have been "surreal and overwhelming" but added that the love and support he has received from Ireland is "humbling".
He said that the Stop The Steal march in Washington was "shocking" but didn't come as a huge surprise as he could sense "something was brewing".
"It was certainly surreal to be there and shocking but I wouldn't say, as crazy as it was, that I was surprised because a lot of people genuinely believed, because of lies, that American democracy had been stolen from them," he told Newstalk's On The Record programme.
"If you're in that state of mind, something as drastic as storming the Capitol might be rational.
"I didn't really expect it to turn the way it did.
"We went there, we knew it was going to be a big event, and possibly demonstrations outside the Capitol but the moment I knew things were going very downhill was we started to see people walking from the White House towards the Capitol.
"We started walking with them and just as we got there, we were there when the first barrier was knocked over.
"People just started streaming onto the lawn of the Capitol, some of them wearing military tactile gear and that was the moment where I was like, 'Oh my God, this shouldn't be happening'.
"We called the newsroom and said there were people now heading right for the front door of the Capitol."
Donie will discuss the experience of reporting this event over several hours for CNN in his upcoming RTE documentary.
The programme will also follow him as he travels across the States as misinformation and 'fake news' become widespread among certain groups following the presidential election.
John King, the CNN star who rose to fame in Ireland during the US election, will also feature in the doc.
Donie explained: "[It airs] on January 4 after the nine o'clock news on RTE One.
"Kind of speaking of a surreal and overwhelming year, RTE came along to do a behind the scenes of some of the Trump rallies and things that we go to and follow us throughout the summer.
"They came along to Cahersiveen as well so hopefully folks get something out of it.
"John King is in there talking a lot about the role misinformation is now playing in American politics."
