Irish chef praises Craig Doyle for lovely gesture when he started TV career

An Irish chef has described This Morning's Philip Schofield replacement Craig Doyle as "one of the good guys" after a kind gesture he did for him at the start of his TV career.

Popular Irish celebrity chef Donal Skehan praised fellow Dubliner Craig Doyle after appearing on the morning British chat show.

The 37-year-old Howth food writer and cook said he had a "lovely time" on air with Craig Doyle and Holly Willoughby.

Skehan, who has over a million YouTube followers on his cooking channel, said it was great to see a fellow Irish man in the hot seat, after he cooked up some chicken shawarma wraps live on air, that "went down a storm."

Craig, 52, took the mantle with Willoughby following the shock exit of now disgraced co-host Phillip Schofield, with the Dublin native a familiar face from his sports broadcasting with BBC and BT Sports, as well as being a temporary host for This Morning.

He has since been a favourite of ITV bosses due to his strong chemistry with Holly Willoughby.

Skehan posted a short anecdote about Craig Doyle on his Instagram, after Wednesday's episode.

He said: "Short story: When I was just starting out, Craig Doyle took the time to give me great advice on the world of media."

The 'Everyday Cook' award-winning author conceded that the pair haven't met since that encounter, however he added that it was lovely to "have our paths cross again."

"Congrats on all - he's one of the good guys," Skehan added.

Skehan hinted that he is off for a "little break now" after the Welsh series and will be back in London in a couple of weeks.

"Thanks for all the lovely comments about the recipe," he concluded on his Instagram post.
