Irish celebs and politicians to live like wheelchair users for a day for charity

Irish celebs, politicians and business people will be spending their day in a wheelchair today with the aim of spreading awareness of the issues faced by wheelchair users in their every day lives. The event, named A Day In My Wheels, has been organised to raise funds for Spinal Injuries Ireland.

Starting the day at Dublin's chq Building in the IFSC, Irish stars are taking part in the day-long challenge. Some of the familiar faces who will be spending their day in a wheelchair include Andy Preston from Dublin's Q102, broadcaster and media personality Lorraine Keane, TV and radio presenter Clare McKenna, actor and comedian Joe Rooney and Valerie Roe.

People from the political sphere taking part are Minister Josepha Madigan and Cathaoirleach of DLRCOCO Lettie McCarthy. Business people such as Anna McHugh from An Post, Bobby Healy from Manna, Devan Hughes from Buymie and John Coroner from Ethos Engineering are also getting involved.

Each business leader taking part donated €5,000 and will be helping to raise further funds for the work that Spinal Injuries Ireland does everyday.

This is Spinal Injuries Ireland inaugural event but they are hoping to raise €100k in donations for the services they provide to wheelchair users in Ireland. The charity aims to help the 2,100+ people living with a spinal cord injury in Ireland, along with over 20,000 of their family members.
