Irish bride-to-be will tie the knot come “hail, rain or shine” on Friday in local garden centre

A bride-to-be will tie the knot come “hail, rain or shine” on Friday in a local garden centre after her nuptials were cancelled once already.

Dubliner Mags Farley, 50, who lives in Kilcormac, Co Offaly, intended to marry fiancé Aidan Spain, 55, earlier this year.

Covid-19 put their July celebrations on ice but they rescheduled their civil ceremony for August.

Unfortunately, their plans to wed outdoors in the garden of the Tullamore Court Hotel had to be axed again due to legal restrictions.

Mags, who is a mum to daughters aged 18 and 24, told The Irish Daily Mirror how after a frantic search for a new venue, a garden centre saved the day.

The retail worker said: “We had to put the reception back but we decided to go ahead with the legal part.”

However, she then found out the Tullamore Court Hotel was closing due to the local lockdown and a legal technicality prevented them marrying in the grounds.

Mags said: “We were to get married in the garden at the back and the hotel agreed for us to still be able to use the garden.

“We found out at half six on Saturday night that we can’t use the hotel because the hotel is closed. We can only get married in a building that has land attached to it that is currently open to the public.”

“It proved a huge obstacle.”

Thankfully, a local garden centre “kindly agreed” for Mags to hold a small outdoor wedding at their business.

Mags and Aidan were also forced to scrap their honeymoon in Italy next week because of the travel restrictions.

However, she said she’s had great support from her registrar Bernice Farrell from Spiritual Ceremonies, the Tullamore Court Hotel, as well as her guests who she said have been “very understanding”.
