A call was received just after 8am saying a child had fallen into a swimming pool and had been pulled out, but was unconscious.

A local confirmed to the Irish Mirror that the boy was spotted by neighbors who pulled him from the water and alerted emergency services.

Local Police from Orihuela were first on the scene are reported the child was "very cold".

They added: "They were working on him for two hours before transferring him to the hospital in Alicante.

"It's shocking, but emergency services were great."

It is thought that the boys parents were eating breakfast in their apartment beside the pool when the accident occurred.
