Irish boxer quizzed by gardai over allegations involving 14-year-old girl

An Irish boxing champion has been quizzed by gardai over allegations he had sex with a 14-year-old girl.

Dublin Live reports that that the then-schoolgirl, who is now in her late teens, made a complaint to detectives at a Dublin garda station in March 2019.

The boxer presented himself for questioning last week in relation to the claims and it's understood a file is now being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Dublin Live has contacted the sportsman at the centre of the allegations and was told to contact his solicitor.

The incidents are alleged to have taken place on a number of dates and different places around 2014.

The boxer strenuously denies the allegations.

It is expected that the DPP will take several weeks to come to a decision on the case.

A garda spokesperson told Dublin Live a man was arrested and questioned last Saturday in relation to an alleged offence and that he was later released pending the preparation of the DPP file.

They said: "A male in his 30s was arrested and questioned on the 25th May 2019 in respect of an offence contrary to Section 3 Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Act 2006.

"He was subsequently released pending a file to the Director of Public Prosecutions."
