Irish boxer Kevin McBride wants Mike Tyson rematch ahead of return fight against Evander Holyfield

A call from Dropkick Murphys frontman Kevin Casey got legendary Irish boxer Kevin McBride back in the ring, the fighter has revealed.

Monaghan-born McBride, 47, is looking to organise a rematch with Mike Tyson after he returns to the ring to fight Evander Holyfield on June 5th.

The 'Clones Colosus' will come back to the squared circle after a decade away to face former world heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield in an exhibition bout on the undercard of Teofimo Lopez's first lightweight title defence against George Kambosos Jr.

The pair faced off for the first time today in a press conference to promote the bout, which will take place on Pay-Per-View as part of the new 'Triller Fight Club' promotion.

Monaghan fighter McBride, 47 said: "Ken Casey from the DropKick Murphys called me up and he said 'are you ready to fit?'

"I said, I'm in good shape for the shape I'm in and he says to me that there's a possibility I could fight Evander Holyfield, so I said let's get it on.

"He must be a better legend than Mike Tyson because he beat him twice, I only beat him once.

"This is going to be exciting, I'm going to show the crowd a great performance. I come to fight."

McBride threw a further jab at former foe Tyson, saying: "Hopefully the talk will change to a rematch between me and Mike Tyson where he'll get off the stool and finish the fight!

Holyfield, 58, has been out the same length of time, and is also eyeing up a third bout with Iron Mike.

"I'm not going to be back for long," he said. "After this one, I'll think about another one [with Tyson], but I'm not trying to do this thing for a long time.

"I'm just trying to show young people that if you take care of your body, you can do everything for a little bit longer than everyone else!"
