Irish bookmakers to introduce whistle to whistle advertising ban for live events

Irish bookmakers are set to introduce a 'whistle to whistle' advertising ban, it has been reported.

Online and retail bookmakers will enforce a 'whistle to whistle' ban on live sports events in future with the ban coming into effect five minutes before and after the live event.

The ban will be similar to the UK and bookmakers and will be applied to events that are shown before 9 pm.

The ban will have exceptions with both horse racing and greyhound racing .

The move comes as Irish Bookmakers Association hope to push towards safer gambling.

It is also reported that bookmakers have been urged to stop accepting credit cards for payments.

Both the advertising ban and credit card ban have been put into the Irish Bookmakers Association with all members expected to apply.

Members include Paddy Power and Betfair as well as bet365 and betway
