Irish barista ends up in hospital after holding in farts around boyfriend for two years

An Irish barista has said that she landed herself in hospital - because she refused to fart around her boyfriend for two years.

The mad story unfolded when Cara Clarke was at work last week.

She developed "extreme stomach pain" which landed her in hospital on Tuesday.

The 19-year-old then learned she had an infection and would have to have her appendix removed before it burst — which she says was caused by her reluctance to break wind around her partner.

The barista, who has been with her boyfriend Kyle Duffy (21) for two years, claims he was “dying laughing” after her efforts to hold it in had left her needing surgery.

Appendicitis can be caused if pressure builds in the appendix, so holding in any wind can cause damage, as Cara found out.

Cara has vowed to just “let it out from now on” after admitting she had no idea how dangerous holding in gas could be.

Cara, from Co Louth, said: "I do hold in my farts but I didn’t think I would be in hospital over it.

"I’m pretty easy-going other than the burps and farts. I was at work on Tuesday and I had this real extreme pain in my stomach.

"I went to the doctor in hysterics and he referred me straight to the hospital. I was in so much pain I couldn’t hold in my tears.

"At hospital, I started blamng my boyfriend because I do always hold my farts in around him.

"We’ve been together two years and it’s still the case.

"Kyle was dying laughing. He honestly didn’t know what to say. He said ‘god, people are going to think you’re afraid of everything with me’.

"At this stage, I’ll just have to let it out from now on."

Cara has revealed that her and Kyle are always joking around and managed to laugh their way through her painful ordeal.

Cara said: “The hospital knew it was appendicitis. It was a bit of a waiting game then they took my bloods and did some tests.

“It was pretty busy so I was there overnight and then the next day, they did the operation in the afternoon. That’s when I got my appendix out. “I came out the hospital on Thursday evening.

“I’m just chilling now and taking advantage of everyone catering for me.”

The clip went viral on TikTok, with over 220,000 views at time of writing.

Cara said: “I did not expect this response at all. I’d really only be having a craic with TikTok.

"Kyle just basically called and knew I’d posted the TikTok video. We always take the p**s out of each other.

"I didn’t expect it to go viral overnight."
