Irish bar opening at former Empire nightclub site two years after it closed following a fatal stabbing

Liverpool nightclub Empire is set to reopen as an Irish bar two years after it closed.

Dirty O'Sheas is set to open next month and will be operated by the team behind Liverpool bars McCooleys, Soho, Peacocks and Brooklyn Mixer.

Empire was closed in October 2017 following the stabbing and death of Sam Cook who was celebrating his 21st birthday at the venue.

Pub Invest Group, who will operate the site, have decided to keep the basement of the venue closed as a mark of respect to the 21-year-old with only the ground floor in use.

It will officially open on September 1, creating 25 new jobs in the city.

A spokesperson for Pub Invest Group said: "We are fully aware of the horrific event that took place in the basement of the old Empire nightclub in 2017.

"We will only operate across the ground floor of the site and have worked closely with licensing on this site."

From September, Dirty O'Sheas will be open seven days a week 12pm-2am.
