An Irish bar at the centre of a large brawl last year has withdrawn an application to open later.
Lanigan’s Bar on Ranelagh Street had submitted a proposal to the city council to extend its opening hours until 4am.
The application was met by stiff opposition from Merseyside Police who submitted their objection to the local authority, referencing a large fight that took place outside the venue in May 2021.

A decision on the application had been expected to be made by a licensing sub-committee this morning
But a spokesperson for the police confirmed to the LDRS that Lanigan’s had removed their application to extend its hours and as a result, the meeting was cancelled.
Footage posted online showed the brawl, which involved security staff clashing with members of the public last summer.
A doorman was seen in one of the videos, appearing to tell the men to "go back where they came from".
Two men were also arrested by police later on suspicion of affray.
Lanigans' owners condemned the incident at the time, saying it was "very saddened to see altercations of such magnitude on the street outside our premises".
The bar had initially sought to extend its opening by two hours and allowing it to close at 4am but Merseyside Police representatives deemed the fight and alleged “Covid breaches” as reasons for the plan not to go ahead.
In a submission to Liverpool Council's licensing and gambling sub-committee, police said they told the bar on previous occasions that previous issues at the premises and the high crime rate in the surrounding area meant they would not support it.
Such an application would “undermine the licensing objectives of the Prevention of Crime and Disorder and Public Safety,” it was claimed.
Despite this, the application was still submitted to Liverpool Council in December, to be discussed today, before it was removed from the agenda on Monday February 14.
